The key takeaway from DevRel Uni Cohort 7 is that ‘AI lets human be more human’. Thus our strategy would be to develop our own expertise while branding ourselves as a human. I used to consider AI as a competitive counterpart regarding mass layoff. Even though I believed there are human edge that is original exclusively to humans, anxiety of getting replaced by AI was there.
Throughout the program of cohort 7, I had a chance to really think about what makes us human. Of course it was challenging when everyday human tasks are getting replaced by AI, especially when I am actively trying to introduce more automations in my day to day life. I tried to think of certain actions or tasks that human are still better than AI but the question was ‘will human be still better in next decade?‘.
The critical part was counter intuitive in a way. Finding the true human edge was not figuring out what humans are better than AI in capabilities but our nature as a human. As a human we are destined to be lonely, worrying, dark and therefore wanting to resolve them through self development and connecting with different human being.
It is questionable if those characteristics help human be more productive but they definitely help human survive. Not only that, being lonely and wanting to generate a meaning through connections leads for human to create something beautiful, the art. So the true human edge was not proving that us humans are better than AI. Circling back to the key takeaway that I mentioned in the beginning, AI lets human be more human. By taking care of mundane, repetitive and everyday tasks, we can focus being human.
For example, Patrick Skinner, the mentor of the third session and also where the quote of my key takeaway comes from, said he has all his engineers spend 2 hours per day solely on research. Also he showed us some of automations he runs for this task and I was surprised to see how bots let him actually cover so much of resources. After collecting the pool of newest information, funneled through automations, human brain comes to take over. Of course AI might know better in the relevance but what human have is the curiosity.
So this is how I am taking forward after DevRel Uni Cohort 7. I will maximize my curiosity to explore and build by saving time from adopting AI and automations for my daily tasks. I will develop my expertise, interest in the cross-over of art and technology. I will brand myself as a curious human, leveraging my human edge in being lonely, yearning for connections.
